Proactive release of Ministerial weekly briefings
All Ministers will release their weekly briefings (with redactions consistent with the OIA) two months after receipt.
Why the contribution is important
Ministers receive a weekly briefing for each portfolio, with information on upcoming policy issues, meetings, OIA requests, and other matters. These briefings are a rich source of information about the government's planned actions, and releasing them would significantly improve transparency. The timing needs to be balanced between timeliness and transparency; from past OIA requests, 2 months seems to give a good balance between the information being current and able to be acted on by the public, and material no longer being under active consideration. Where material is still under active consideration it should be redacted in accordance with s9(2)(f)(iv) of the OIA, but an updated version should be released when it no longer needs to be redacted.
