What is the Open Government Data Action Plan?
The three-year, cross-government Action Plan aims to improve the release and re-use of open government data.
Some highlights:
- Funding, training and support to help government agencies improve open data releases, data management, legal infrastructure and other important areas
- Investment in ‘data users’ – to boost their capacity to use open data to help us better understand some of New Zealand’s big social, environmental and economic issues.
- Working towards a government culture of ‘open by design’ (where safe and appropriate to do so) ensuring privacy and confidentiality of an individual’s data
- Ensuring government agencies have open data foundations in place, such as effective freedom of information practices and robust privacy safeguards – as well as common open data objectives, requirements, standards and performance indicators.
