To rapidly implement and resource the partnership-based recommendations of multi-stakeholder and tripartite Review Groups and Working Groups

Hui E! Proposal 9

To rapidly implement and resource the partnership-based recommendations of multi-stakeholder and tripartite Review Groups and Working Groups such as the Joint Working Group on Pay Equity Principles, recognising that when government partners with civil society and business to jointly identify the best way forward for New Zealand, the parties are committed to the outcome.

This proposal addresses the OGP Values of: Transparency, access to information, civic participation, and improving public accountability.

Why the contribution is important

Where Government has participated as an equal in tripartite or multi-stakeholder groups, and there is joint agreement about the best way forward, it is un-democratic for government to then say it will do nothing, or will do something different. It effectively means that government's actions are less than optimal, even before they start.

Government should act swiftly in initiatives that lift the pay levels of less well off New Zealanders. As well as being appropriate, it is also responsible in improving the overall well-being of the community.
