Public Consultation needs to make available all relevant data

Any Public Consultation should fully inform the community being consulted with.

This includes making available all of the data that underpins the consultation topic and includes:

  • Evidence base data

  • Statistics data

  • Geospatial data used in any maps provided

Why the contribution is important

The community now has the ability and tools to assess any data.

If the community are provided with the relevant data they can make a more informed contribution to public consultation.

If we could get more government agencies to subscribe to the International Association of Public Participation's (IAP2) core values and code of ethics that would be a good way of managing this issue - see http://www.iap2.org/?page=A4 . Local government tends to be more actively involved in IAP2 but it would be good to get more government involvement and buy-in
