Provide a national contestable fund to resource software development that improves software ability to handle open standard data

Establish a national contestable fund to improve software ability to handle open standard data, be it open source or proprietary packages, so long as the code produced is in the public domain and is shared.

Why the contribution is important

There are many open source and proprietary software packages that are used to handle open standard data.

They are often lacking in the functionality required to fully and efficiently handle open standard data.

This is particularly a problem in the geospatial sector where open source software could be more mature, and proprietary software has limited functionality.

This lack limits governments ability to handle open standard data, manage data efficiently and the ability to deliver open data in open data formats.

This would also contribute to the worlds open data standard software handling capability.
